A young child can develop many useful skills by using puzzles such as handling materials with care, refinement of movement and dexterity, completing an activity, carrying out steps through out the activity, focus of attention, and solving problems. Knobbed puzzles are great for beginners for they enhance the pincer grip of the child. Placing the thumb and first two fingers on the knobs will enhance and prepare the child’s grip for writing and other fine muscle activities. Certain steps to help the child would be; grasping the knob, removing the pieces of the puzzle one at a time, and carefully laying them on the surface. Then repeat the process back into the frame of the puzzle.
The First Shapes Jumbo Knob Puzzle develops eye-hand coordination, shape and color recognition, and establishes an understanding that shapes are in our environment, everywhere.
